In order to create your best-possible multimedia presentations, it is important to understand what they are and what they do first.   You will:

  1. learn about PowerPoint, Prezi, and PowToon;
  2. create a mini-presentation using the same information in PowerPoint, Prezi, and PowToon; and
  3. evaluate the pros and cons of each presentation type (a.k.a. medium) using the graphic organizer linked below.

Do not be lazy.  You must read each link and watch each video from the top of the page to the bottom in this section.  Be sure to complete your answers to any included questions on your copy of the graphic organizer below.

Successful Digital Presentations Graphic Organizer

Step 1: Learning about PowerPoint, Prezi, and PowToon

Watch the video below and complete the “General Information,” “Pros,” and “Cons” sections of the graphic organizer.

Step 2: Create Your Own PowerPoint, Prezi, and PowToon

Share a little bit of information about yourself through PowerPoint, Prezi, and PowToon.  Create a presentation in each medium that includes the following information (each bullet point is a different slide/frame/scene):

  • Your First Name and Last Initial (DO NOT put your full name in case yours is picked to be placed online),
  • Your name’s meaning (Go to any name meaning website like BabyNames or NameBerry),
  • Your favorite color and why (include a picture of at least one school appropriate thing that is that color),
  • Your favorite hobby/interest(s) and why, and
  • Your goals for this school year.

Basic Tips on Creating a PowerPoint

Now that you know how to create a PowerPoint, go ahead and create your own presentation.  Be sure to include information from the bullet points under “Step 2.”  Save your PowerPoint as FirstName.LastInitial.ClassPeriod.ppt  in the “Ms. Williams” folder on the U:/ drive.  Be sure to save your presentation within your class’ subfolder.

Next, take a moment to complete the “Reflections on Power Point” section of your graphic organizer after creating your PowerPoint.

Basic Tips on Creating a Prezi

Now that you know how to create a Prezi, create an account on Prezi.com and create your own presentation.  Be sure to include information from the bullet points under “Step 2.” (HINT: You should be able to import the PowerPoint you made above into Prezi.)

Be sure to complete the “Reflections on Prezi” section of your graphic organizer after creating your Prezi.

Basic Tips on Creating a PowToon

You now know how to create a PowToon.  Create an account on PowToon.com and make your own video using the information from the bullet points under “Step 2.”

When you finish making your cartoon, complete the “Reflections on PowToon” section of your graphic organizer after creating your PowToon.

Step 3: Evaluate the Pros and Cons of PowerPoint, Prezi, and PowToon

You were able to complete most of the graphic organizer at the top of this page after watching the first video which gave you an overview of each of these three mediums.  Now that you have created your own mini-presentations in each using the same information, go back to see if there is any more you can add to the “Pros” and “Cons” columns.

Next, complete the questions at the end of the graphic organizer handout.  Be sure to provide complete and detailed answers.
