Prepositions

TASK: Use the web quests on this page to help you strengthen your grammar skills.  If you have questions, first ask your table partner.  If they do not know, raise your hand to have Ms. Williams help you.  Remember, keep your volume at a whisper!

Grammar Quest #1: Prepositions

Prepositions tell where a noun (a person, place, or thing) is located in space (physical location) and time.  Use the links below to help you and your partner become stronger with prepositions, prepositional phrases, and objects of the preposition.

  • Activity #1: By Color Groups
    • You and your partner will take turns completing one of the quizzes below.  Student A will do the odd number and Student B will do the even numbers.
    • You must score 80% or above to move on to Activity #2.  If you score below an 80%, re-do the quiz.  Log your best score on the graphic organizer.
  • Activity #2: All Groups
    • Once again, take turns completing the quiz below.  Student A will do the odd number and Student B will do the even numbers.
    • Prepositional Phrases
    • Write a total of 6 prepositional phrases on your graphic organizer (3 per student).
  • Activity #3: By Color Groups
    • Review the notes on objects of the preposition from Chomp Chomp or from Grammar Monster.
    • Blue Group
      • Create your own 8-question quiz (4 questions per student) and key on objects of the preposition.
      • The questions must all relate back to the documentary “The Dark Side of Chocolate.”
    • Green Group-
      • Create your own 6-question quiz (3 questions per student) and key on objects of the preposition.
      • At least 4 of the questions must relate back to the documentary “The Dark Side of Chocolate.”
    • Yellow Group-
      • Write 6 sentences (3 per student) that have prepositional phrases.
      • Color-code (or use special underlining with) each part of the prepositional phrase.
      • In each sentence, identify:
        • the preposition
        • the prepositional phrase
        • the object of the preposition
    • Pink Group-
      • Create a 3-part Frayer Model for objects of the preposition.  Have a space for:
        • your own definition
        • an example of an object of the preposition
        • a picture illustrating your example
